Description
The Security Engineer – IBM i / AS400 is responsible for managing, securing, and monitoring the IBM i/AS400 environment to ensure that security configurations, access controls, and system auditing comply with internal policies, regulations, and applicable security baselines.
Scope of Work:
- Manage and maintain security configurations in the IBM i/AS400 environment in accordance with company security standards and policies.
- Perform periodic security hardening and security configuration assessments on IBM i systems.
- Manage access authorization, including user profiles, group profiles, special authorities, object/library authorities, IFS security, and authorization lists, based on the principle of least privilege.
- Manage audit configurations (QAUDCTL, QAUDLVL/QAUDLVL2) and analyze the security audit journal (QAUDJRN).
- Conduct vulnerability management and security PTF assessments, and coordinate remediation.
- Ensure the security of network services on IBM i (FTP/SFTP, SSH, Telnet/5250, HTTP/HTTPS, ODBC/JDBC, TLS).
- Conduct security investigations and incident response in the IBM i environment.
- Coordinate with infrastructure, application, network, SOC, IAM, and audit teams, and support audit and compliance requirements.
- Prepare technical documentation, SOPs, and security reports for the IBM i environment.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (S1) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in Information Security, Infrastructure Security, or a related field.
- Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on experience managing or securing IBM i/AS400 environments.
- Solid understanding of IBM i security architecture and security administration.
- Solid understanding of user profiles, group profiles, special authorities, object authorities, library authorities, IFS security, authorization lists, adopted authority, and profile swapping on IBM i.
- Experienced in performing security hardening and security configuration assessments on IBM i.
- Experienced in IBM i security auditing, including QAUDJRN, QAUDCTL, QAUDLVL/QAUDLVL2, and security audit journal analysis.
- Understanding of privileged access management concepts and the principle of least privilege.
- Understanding of TCP/IP, FTP/SFTP, SSH, Telnet/5250, HTTP/HTTPS, ODBC/JDBC, TLS, and network security on IBM i.
- Experienced in vulnerability management, security PTF assessment, remediation, and compliance with security baselines.
- Basic knowledge of Db2 for i and SQL.
- Able to conduct security investigations and incident response in the IBM i environment.
- Strong documentation, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Able to collaborate with infrastructure, application, network, SOC, IAM, and audit teams.
